Selecting the correct chiller requires more than choosing a cooling capacity.

Common Chiller Selection Questions

Air-cooled chillers are simpler to install and do not require cooling towers. Water-cooled chillers can offer higher efficiency and are often better suited to larger plant room installations.

Glycol is normally required where fluid temperatures are below normal chilled water temperatures or where freeze protection is required.

This depends on the process. Many industrial applications operate between 7°C and 15°C, but plastics, chemical and low temperature applications may require different conditions.

The chiller must be matched to the correct flow rate. Too little flow can cause poor heat transfer and chiller safety trips. Too much flow can create excessive pressure drop or control problems.
